Training/Induction

Induction training is a very important way to set the scene and ensure that your apprentice starts off on the right foot.

For a bilingual apprentice, this is a good place to include:

The benefits of Welsh

You could emphasise the benefits of Welsh generally and to your organisation – tell the learner why you are keen for them to complete their apprenticeship bilingually.

Bilingual induction material

If your company is bilingual already, this will be an easy win but if you are developing as a bilingual company or do not speak Welsh you could use a translation service or work with a Welsh speaking member of staff to provide some bilingual materials.

An introduction to Welsh speakers in the company

You could perhaps pair the apprentice with a language mentor as well as a vocational mentor.

If you aren’t sure who in the business is bilingual, now might be a good opportunity to do a quick audit of language skills.
